We have a large range of basket waste finishes and are often asked how durable are your basket wastes or what is the difference between a PVD or an electroplated basket waste? Below we take you through the different materials you will find in our special finish basket wastes and the key advantages of each.
Stainless Steel with Electroplated finish with protective lacquer
Electroplating is a process that uses an electric current to dissolve metal and deposit it onto a surface. It is used primarily to change the physical properties of an object.
Whilst the primary reason for electroplating is to improve the appearance of a base material, other benefits include building thickness through progressive thin layers and the protective layers added act as a barrier protecting the surface of the original material.
A protective lacquer is then electroplated onto the basket waste to prevent tarnishing, this also stops the aging process over time.
Stainless steel with PVD finish
Physical Vapour Deposition or PVD coating is a vacuum deposition process that is being used more often in recent years. There are many benefits of a PVD coating. The PVD process provides a more uniform deposit, improved adhesion up to six times greater in some cases, wider choice of materials to be deposited and there are no harmful chemicals to dispose of.
What makes PVD coating highly durable, corrosion and scratch resistant?
Being able to apply coatings at the atomic level using PVD allows control of structure, density and the reaction of the materials being used resulting in a greater protective barrier against damage. Which makes PVD a stronger application than electroplating.
Premium Polyproylene:
Premium polypropylene is a very durable type of plastic. It has a high heat tolerance, is scratch resistant and stain resistant. It doesn't react with water, detergents, acids, or bases, so it won't break down.
