BACKGROUND
The client’s inspiration for their home renovation was for a coastal barn-style home for their family to enjoy. The kitchen was a large part of this home renovation. Previously, this large room had the kitchen in the corner, with a small island bench. It lacked bench space around the cooktop and did not utilise the room to its potential. There was also a corner display unit that wasn’t used often and became wasted space. The existing walk-in pantry was poorly laid out with open-shelf storage that butted into the tall cabinets.
They wanted to utilise the room better and extend the size of the kitchen to fit the room. A large island bench, with no need for a dining table due to an undercover alfresco seating area. More bench space. They wished to channel coastal barn style, which is light and bright, with elements of brass. The inspiration for this space was the relaxed, sun-filled coastal lifestyle. The space also needed to reflect the owners’ personalities, being warm, kind and full of joy. This is where the warm, deep timber detailing came in and the touches of luxurious brass hardware.
The clients were in need of storage, bench space and simply more room for their laundry. Lux Interiors design created a solution to the lack of storage and non-existent bench space, and while tying it in with the Coastal Barn theme. They removed two internal walls that framed the shower room and turned this space into floor to ceiling storage with bench space and cabinetry. This opened up the space and faced the washer and dryer stack that was now neatly framed with a butler sink, base cabinetry and overhead cabinetry. or the materials, we recommended a feature pink penny round mosaic tile with a porcelain marble look benchtop which are complimented by the brass hardware and V Groove panelling. The clean lines and bold framing of this laundry nook makes it feel like a proper laundry space.
The crisp white of the Novi fine fireclay gloss white butler sinks blend beautifully with the all-white cabinetry and are a distinct feature in this coastal-barn style home. The farmhouse style butler sinks are a nod to the farmhouse kitchens known in barn style homes.
